PORTRAITS
My Digital Portraits.
A Showcase of Portraits and Life Drawings.
Digital Portrait, Peter Dinklage
As part of my dissertation this year, I’m exploring the importance of contemporary art representing disability, specifically portraiture. Painting only the fundamental elements of a portrait is a style I’ve been developing since collage.
DIGITAL INFANT
Digital tonal sketch using iPad Pro and Procreate. This was used within my “Time and Space” Project Brief 2020, where I explored the different stages of life and the impact of ageing. This was used as an example to represent the beginning of life.
DIGITAL SELF-PORTRAIT PAINTING
Digital painting using iPad Pro and Procreate. A visual response to my own makeup manipulation of the character, Jekyll and Hyde. This was part of my own personal project where I developed my makeup artistry and photography. 2021
DISABILITY MAGAZINE COVER
For this project I made a disability magazine which challenged the representation of the disabled and people with visual differences. Positive forms of representation help to contribute in shaping and how we see the world. I wanted to show honest and raw stories through my portraiture.
I made a point of showing the person and their personality rather than their condition. I showed the children having fun and playing, with the hope for other people to see them as kind and loving. These portraits are a step in the right direction to change underrepresentation and prejudice.
DIGITAL SELF-PORTRAIT PAITING
Digital painting using iPad Pro and Procreate. Another example from my personal 2021 project. A discussion which provoked the contrasts and contradictions of both female and male lives.
OBSERVATIONAL SKETCHES
Action shots of my foster sibling at his dance club.
ETCHING RESPONSE TO SELF-PORTRAIT
For my final major project “Order & Chaos” 2020, I explored illusion and distortion. During lockdown I forced myself to use the objects around me to be creative. Using a cheese grater and water to physically distort my appearance and creating an interesting light affect. I edited the photo in Photoshop.
To the right is an etching in response to the self-portrait. Using my car to run over the image as a substitute instead of a printer. I created various artworks responding to the reference image, using different printing techniques such as: lino, stencilling, textiles printing and etching.
