DISABILITY IN ILLUSTRATION

As part of my dissertation this year, I’m exploring the importance of contemporary art representing disability.

PENGUIN BOOK COVER

Using Adobe Software, I was part of the Penguin Book Competition 2021. This is my visual response to “Diary of a Young Naturalist”. The autobiography is about an autistic teenager and his struggles, but overcoming it through his love of nature.

PLANNING PAGE - ILLUSTRATION

Digital illustration made using Procreate. This was for my Project “Site-Specific Public Art”, where I explored recycling and the effect of plastic waste in the ocean.

Here, I used different techniques and brushes within Procreate to make a variety of designs and practise my use of techniques.

Using adobe suite I developed a potential final piece idea. This was for my project “Site-Specific Public Art”, 2021.

Make-up Artistry/ Photography

I have an interest in make-up artistry and character design. This is an example of the Joker played by Heath Ledger. I was toying with the idea of split personality for this project and experimented with prosthetics and theatre make-up.

This piece was used within my Project “Time & Space” 2020, where I looked at how a space changes through time (foetus in the womb).

Based on photography I took whilst in Folkestone, I created a print of the area in a collage of images turned print, 2021.
